I have held this position for a number of years. My role, according to our
constitution, is to advise the Board on all matters pertaining to the relations
of the Association with the community of which it is a part. The committee
is responsible for liaison with external bodies, including other associations,
the Municipal Council and Provincial Government Departments and
agencies, including the Quebec Provincial Police (Sureté du Québec).
A member of the committee is to be appointed to be a member of LAMAC
(Lake MacDonald Shoreline Owners Association) to act in a liaison
capacity between the associations.
During my tenure I have met with the mayor on several occasions in order
to establish a dialogue between the municipally and the LRA. Additionally, I
have had several discussions with Neil Swail, Director of Public Works &
Chief of the Fire Department for the municipality, relating to the safety on
White Rd.
I have also attended and participated in meetings of the Lake MacDonald
Shoreline Owners Association (LAMAC). As the LRA is an owner of
lakefront property we are entitled and have become a member of LAMAC
at an annual cost of $30.00. The LRA Board has also donated $300.00 to
help defray some of the costs LAMAC incurs in the purchase and
maintenance of hazard markers their volunteer members have
installed/removed from our lake each year.
LAMAC’s mission statement is as follows:
Objectives of the Association
1.1 To promote and Protect the water quality and environmental health of the lake and shoreline.
1.2 To promote the safe use of the waterways
1.3 To promote issues which contribute to the general quality of living around the lake with respect to activities on the lake and the shoreline.
1.4 To represent and protect the general interests of the shoreline owners, who are members of the Association.
1.5 The Association will pursue these objectives by, among other things:
a. Representing the membership and acting as an intermediary between municipal and/or governmental authorities and other interested parties;
b. Fostering decision making based on valid data, and full and open discussion among the members on all major issues.
c. Promoting education and general awareness of the goals of the Association
LAMAC’s official website https://www.facebook.com/lamac327/ is a resource that provides many details regarding the health of Lake MacDonald. According to the latest test results taken at various locations of our lake, our lake is healthy. Full details are available on their website.
They also host another site: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2042497122456754/ which features numerous photos and historical anecdotes about the history of our lake.
I will continue this season in my role as Director of Community Affairs. If necessary, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thanks and have a great summer,
Don Barrett
